Magnetic Temptations, a 25-minute new work utilizing eight dancers and composer Donnacha Dennehy’s Grá agus Bás, is situated on the ideals of love and death, on seductions and temptations which most are aware have likely negative outcomes. This work exists to comment on and share with viewers examples of “love” that can cause “death”; such as a toxic interpersonal relationship or choosing not to acknowledge or participate in improvements on global sustainability practices – many are aware of their decisions and continue choosing those which are unhealthy and can bring destruction. During the creative process, I utilized paralleling the partnering of the instruments, with the partnering of bodies in space, as well as a combination of classical modern dance technique and the cut-up technique in order to share these which can become addictions and destroyers of interpersonal relationships, societies at large, and even our planet which sustains us.
