BEHIND THE CURVE was created under the mentorship of Doug Varone in DEVICES 4, with support from Ms. Joan Bowman.
The piece will be titled “Behind the Curve” which came out of discussions and ideas from the rehearsal process. Whether through her own doings or through outside forces beyond her control, one character in this work can’t seen to get ahead or to reach the prosperity/fulfillment she seeks in life. This may represent a large piece of society (the “have nots” if you will) that are constantly manipulated through policies, or societal norms in general, to not get ahead. While most well-intentioned people seek to “bend the curve” for the betterment of society, it is possible the curve is bent by the powers that be so that some are always behind it and struggle to stay ahead. These folks are “behind the curve”. In this dance, the curve is being bent at her expense.
