Dr. Ellen Beatty
Dr. Ellen Russell Beatty has achieved notable success in her career in higher education, where she has been responsible for building, sustaining, and assessing innovative and high quality programs, all while nurturing a family of a husband and three sons. As the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Southern Connecticut State University, Dr. Beatty is well known nationally for consulting and publishing on organizational performance, leadership effectiveness, and stakeholder loyalty.
Retired, Dr. Beatty holds the rank of Professor Emerita of Nursing and Public Health from the CT State University system. She is a respected opinion leader in strategic planning and program development. She continues to work with several educational and community-based organizations as member of boards and as consulting subject matter expert.
In addition to the broad perspective and a multitude of skills required of high-level administrators, Dr. Beatty’s areas of special expertise lie in strategic planning, accreditation, assessment & planning, and budgetary allocation. Seasoned in interdisciplinary collaboration, she has extensive grant writing experience with a track record of successful funding. These experiences led to her appointment as Chairperson of the Board for the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut.
Committed to addressing issues related to women in higher education, Dr. Beatty served as president of the Southern Connecticut State University’s chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Her involvement in the community beyond Southern has been extensive and widely recognized. She was named one of twenty Noteworthy Women by the New Haven Business Times for her contributions to the community and is a past recipient of the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing from the Connecticut Nurse’s Association. Dr. Beatty has developed an extensive network of influential leaders in women’s professional development for education, business, and the arts.
Dr. Beatty earned Masters and Doctorate degrees in Education from Columbia University. She also holds a Master of Art degree from New York University.
