Silvia Nevjinsky
Silvia Nevjinsky, a native of Lisbon, Portugal, had a professional dance career for 21 years, including 5 years with the Lisbon Dance Company, 4 and a half with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and 10 years with the Paul Taylor Dance Company. With these companies, she performed all over the USA as well as in 37 countries in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
She appeared as a guest artist with several other dance companies including the Empire State Ballet, the Eglevsky Ballet, the New American Ballet Ensemble, Ballet for Young Audiences and David Storey Dance Works. Additionally, she was on the cover of Time Magazine and appeared in several music videos, industrials and special events including the Walt Disney Premiere of “Pocahontas” in Central Park. She can be seen in “Dancemaker”, an Oscar nominated documentary directed by Matthew Diamond as well as in two “Dance in America” PBS specials with the Paul Taylor Dance Company: “Acts of Ardor” and “A Wrecker’s Ball”.
As a teacher, Mrs. Nevjinsky has taught Master classes at Skidmore College, at the American Dance Festival in Durham, at the Lisbon Dance Conservatory and in San Paulo. She has taught dance workshops in New York, Lisbon, Oporto, Vila do Conde, Toulouse and Antwerp as well as ballet classes to three Portuguese Contemporary Dance Companies. She taught modern dance to students in the New York City Public Schools for the City Center Outreach Program, at the Summer Arts Institute (as a guest of American Ballet Theatre), at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, at the Lyceum Kennedy School, and at the Paul Taylor Dance Company School in New York. She has taught at Newark Academy in New Jersey and at St.Johnsbury Academy in Vermont.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hunter College of New York and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance through ADF/Hollins University. She is also a Certified Yoga Teacher, registered with the Yoga Alliance and a Posture Analysis Specialist in the Egoscue Method. She is excited to be a part of the ACB Dance Company Advisory Board.
